The Peaklander is a site dedicated to all of the great things about the Peak District in the UK. The content is written or photographed by me, Mark Rickaby, but you’ll occasionally see posts from some of my walking buddies here, too.
The name derives from the Pēacsǣtan, also known as Peaklanders or Peakrills, who were an Anglo Saxon tribe who inhabited the central and northern parts of the Peak District.
Originally from Gloucester, I studied at the University of Derby and moved to Nottingham after graduation. It wasn’t long before I fell in love with the Peak District. After a few long years living and working in London, I decided to move back to my adopted home in the East Midlands – the Peaks had been calling me for too long and I had to listen to them.
